So you want the best speeds available, of course you do, but are you and your devices ready for it?
Some things to think about.
What devices are you connecting?
How are you connecting, wired or Wi-Fi?
What devices are you connecting?
Many users want the best possible speed and then run into issues when the games console doesn't work any faster than it did before.
This generally isn't a broadband speed issue, but a limitation from the hardware.
Games consoles are notorious for having 500 - 600 Mbps connection to their server no matter what speeds we can give you.
Older devices with older Wi-Fi capabilities will also not see speed increases due to the above reasons.
Laptops and computers made before 2020 are largely fitted with Gigabit network cards only, this means they can only ever receive Gigabit speeds, these are much easier to resolve as 2.5Gbps adapters are readily available online for very little money, and will get the best from your broadband service.
Are you connecting Wired or Wi-Fi?
Although Wi-Fi is more convenient, you rarely see the full speeds your device is capable of.
Nowadays we are surrounded by wireless signals all competing for your attention, this causes your router to work harder to get the signal you want to the device you want it. Imagine a busy room where everyone talking at the same time, as soon as one starts shouting, all the others do...…CHAOS!
So wired connections are always the best way to get the best speeds you are paying for.
Also speed tests are not considered relevant unless completed over a wired connection due to the above variables.
